Maureece J. Levin is an archaeologist and archaeobotanist with research interests in food production systems, historical ecology, niche construction, and social change. Currently, she is a Lecturer of Anthropology at Valdosta State University in Georgia. Following her postdoctoral position in Professor Li Liu’s laboratory (2015-2019), she has remained an active collaborator with colleagues at Stanford University. Her research methods focus on phytolith and plant macroremain analysis, especially concerning the application of phytoliths to the interpretation of the archaeological record. She also conducts ethnoarchaeological research, talking to modern people to better understand how they farm and eat today. Ultimately, she is interested in the long-term sustainability of the ways that people grow food. Her main projects have been focused on Micronesia, with current work on the islands of Pingelap and Pohnpei, but she also collaborates on projects focused in China and elsewhere.
